The Chatham-Kent Breastfeeding Coalition is made up of a network of organizations and community members. We work together to make sure that families receive up-to-date breastfeeding information in a way that makes sense for them.
You can access accurate information early in your pregnancy at the Building Healthy Babies programs throughout Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim or Tilbury. This program meets at regular intervals with both a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian to help provide answers that meet your needs.
The Chatham-Kent Health Unit provides free prenatal classes – both in-person and online. The Healthy Growth and Development Team has many resources for young families to increase their breastfeeding knowledge through the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program. The Health Unit also partners with EarlyON Child and Family Centres to provide Baby Weigh-Ins – a chance for families to speak face to face with a Public Health Nurse or Lactation Consultant about their breastfeeding concerns.
Mother Nurture Breastfeeding Support Services provides classes, individual lactation services and support throughout the municipality. They also provide services in partnership with the Walpole Health centre.
La Leche League meetings are a great way to meet other breastfeeding families. The groups are led by trained peer volunteers who have breastfed their own children and are able to provide support for as long as a mother chooses to breastfeed.
Chatham-Kent Health Alliance offers breastfeeding support during the hospital stay. A Public Health Nurse will visit you in the hospital to ensure continued support once you go home.
The Coalition values its community members and is always looking for interested individuals who would like to be a part of this important work.
